Agapanthus

A summer perennial, the agapanthus, « flower of love » in Greek, is tall and long with a stem over one meter high. Endowed with white and blue flowers forming beautiful spheres, the agapanthus likes the sun and dislikes the cold.

Where and when to see them?
We find them in the flowerbeds of the water garden.
Agapanthus are the principal subject of two of Claude Monet’s paintings “Les agapanthes” and “Nymphéas et agapanthes” near the mythical flowers of the water garden.

How to cultivate them?
Native to South Africa, agapanthus dislike the cold and they are destined for temperate regions. They are to be protected in winter. They can be potted and stored in a cellar or in a cold greenhouse in winter.
